she blogs!
aa my dear hunnies and bunnies (and those in between!)Having endured much criticism from my good readership (if that be a word) on the great dearth of posts, i have decided "'twont do 'twont do!" Well, to get la excuses out of the way first, i had no internet! yes has been a turbulent few months i kid u not. n that with uni interviews coming up (a tale in itself to be elaborated upon later) and courseworks n all thing which generally make the ever cloudy manchester that much cloudier (bikey n toto u cn keep ur sunny arab comments to urself-tht goes for u too doe). so i had to resort to hasstling poor mb n hijacking his pc (among much protest of having killer essays to complete himself) for the purpose of bare necessities such as research n research n more research:P.
anyways, so im blogging again:D. so to quickly update on past events i shud hv blogged about but either cudnt or was too depressed to:
- i turned 20! yes my dears the anti ageing cream comes out! this wud be an example of news i chose not to disclose out of sheer depression. the first year of being older than my birth date. then again last yr was sumthing of a novelty, turning 19 on the 19th of october...sigh.
- granny bumpkin pumpkin of la smiths range has jetted of in grannyish style to la states. trying to convince me to go too, but i hv exams, darn it:P.
- la house mouse has again made his presence known. as a frequent guest (or, in my bros' view, pet) we have christened (i cant think of a muslim word) him 'george'. or more to the point, br siamak has christened him george. i have currently taken up lodgings on the 3rd floor.
- toto ur college has mailed begging for money. no really, they want donations. i thought oxbridge was supposed to be rich? or have we just a knack at studying at the poorest of private institutions? visions of islamic school come to mind....then again they were muslim so ofcourse they were poor. honestly.
- yes ppl we went to watch hp4! one walked out with ones hair on end, not from shock but from the sheer speed of the movie-zipping from scene to scene! but needless to say, their best effort yet:), so long as we maintain the gap between book and movie and dont even attempt to compare. luvley juvley, n many worthy of peri's label of 'eye candy'! next stop, NARNIA this sunday!
- have begun la applications to universities. did i mention i dropped all things and thoughts sciency in favour of english? well i did:). luvley juvley, u may all expect my articles in the independent soon and my books under the pen name....er still working on it!
achcha so moving on to more recent events. i had an interview! n ive got another one in queen mary (london) next week. first one i just had was in cambridge:S:S:S. mind u the application was sent with the complete understanding that i wont get in. aaah but twas a luvley place, well worthy of a visit even if i dnt get in. applied to newnham college which is the other womens one besides bikey's newhall. btw bikey, ur new hall is on the other side of the planet! o and on top of a hill, so i decided, as a non cyclist, to not apply. newnham, bless it, is accross the street from the english dept:D. o n having met ur luvley juvley sis in charge (angel of the first order belss her) i discovered it is indeed possible to survive minus bike! o and on the topics of bikes, ppl the cambridge ppl have, i kid u not, wicker baskets on their bikes!!! felt like i was in an enid blyton book (when i dint feel like i was on a king arthur movie set)! yes needless to say i got thoroughly over excited at the prettiness n traditionalness when i went.
actually perhaps a more choronological relation of events will help reduce the confusion u must all be feeling.
- arrived in camb at 10.30pm (ALONE) and took the dodgyest taxi possible - was terrified. taxi turned out to be driven by a jolly bingolian who wudnt take charge afterwards(!!) on account of my bingolianess n the great dearth of our kind in camb, aparently i was the first student to apply tht he'd met. wahay feeling patriotic already!
- stayed overnight in the room they provided - very victorian with antique furniture....n a BUG which i pikd up that first night n havent managed to shake off since. been coughing all night ill have u know.
- had the interviews next day: two dratted interviews and a written test - dunno what theyre trying to do to us. anyways, a jolly bunch these newnhamites and their tutors. director of studies who interviewed me reminded me distinctly of bertie wooster (as hugh laurie) though, ofcourse, much better endowed with the 'grey matter'. really she was TAAAAALLL and skinny and positively bubbling n jolly. luvd her. actually r all the tuturs tall there? bcoz the 2nd one was too... anyways, no comment on the interviews n absolutely NO mention of the test. suffice it to say we all came out in a state of nervous collapse.
- met the jolly newnhamite sisters (dont u adore the isoc connections?) n theyre proved a wonderous bunch. went to dinner that evening - on of the sisters led us to an intrigueing vegan restaurant in a celler. no really. it was down a tiny alley down sum tiny stairs into a celler. spinach lasagne ppl - try it. tho omg, i dint realise cambridge cost so much! £7.95 no less for that!
- stayed another night in the infectious room (despite which i grew quite attached to it) and met up with sarah (sis in charge) next day. a bonny blooming sis who took me on a tour of camb (my legs r still aching - advice for future fellow interviewees, dont wear heeled boots, ull want to look around n tht requires walking). the place is, in a word, beautiful. all medieval n wonderous. really, i dont care if the students dont like tourists, ppl we must visit! anyways, following jolly tour, sarah took me to lunch in a jolly little place (she refused to let me pay too!) and then saw me off in a taxi to the train station. o btw i bought sum yummy scrummy fudge, which my bro practically finished yesterday. i woke up today to find a mere dollop remained. o n on our jolly tour we walked past a big issue seller who spouted poetry (sarah: 'he's really good u know'). honestly, even the homeless in cambridge are literate...
so tht sums up the cambridge visit. twas fun fun. n now am in need of dua if im to have any remote chance of being accepted, so prayers humbly requested.
anyways poppets, must fly. am on mb's pc once more and he wishes to rest minus my steady hammering on his ill-fated keyboard. take care and pray for me!
ws luv n duas
dazey xx
