aa peoplioaccording to pink, as i am now a student of english, she expects long eloquent prose materialising on this blog at regular intervals. Judging that i somehow scraped an excuse for an essay together for uni over a 24 hour period (shammy, my 'housemate' commented on how i become 'scary' when writing essays under pressure) when i had been given roughly two weeks, i doubt my blog will be honoured in any such way. then again, you never know. afterall, it is universally recognised that somehow blogging gets a great deal more attention than studies, is it not?
so i was thinking, after such a long absence, how do i go about documenting aaaaalll that has happened since i have turned psuedo londoner? and then i came across this wonderful little poem:
A Description of London by John Bancks (1738)
Houses, churches, mixed together,
Streets unpleasant in all weather,
Prisons, palaces contagious,
Gates, a bridge, the Thames irriguous
Gaudy things enough to tempt ye,
Showy outsides, insides empty;
Bubbles, trades, mechanic arts,
Coaches, wheelbarrows and carts.
Warrants, bailiffs, bills unpaid,
Lords of laundresses afraid;
Rogues that nightly rob and shoot men,
Hangmen, aldermen and footmen.
Lawyers, poets, priests, physicians,
Noble, simple, all conditions:
Worth beneath a threadbare cover,
Villainy bedaubed all over.
Women Black, red, fair and grey,
Prudes and such as never pray,
Handsome, ugly, noisy, still,
Some that will not, some that will.
Many a beau without a shilling,
Many a widow not unwilling;
Many a bargain, if you strike it:
This is London! How d'ye like it?
***
i quote: this is london! how d'ye like it? (i'll answer that next blog)
anyway, so i got this blog together the other day, but figured it was rather snide. so perhaps i shall post it at a later date.
in other news, trafalgar square was a great success alhamdulillah. 5000-6000 turnout mashAllah! and mb sang well mashAllah. though people seemed to think he was nervous, and he seems to think he wasn't. lol. next stop: global peace and unity event! speaking of which, should i steward there or should i sit back and enjoy the show?
tc chucks.
ws luv & duas
